The lies don’t stop. But if you listen carefully, you can guess at the truth of what this bunch of MLAs have up their sleeve. They will not stop until the complete destruction of Goa is achieved. After all his talk that the Regional Plan 2021 was notified, it turns out it was not, because he let slip that planning and deliberations for formulating RP2021 will stop, says Vijai Sardesai.
This shows that claims of RP2021’s notification was a big fat lie of the BJP-led government of Goa. Now Vijai Sardesai finds that there are not enough powers given to his ministry – the Town and Country Planning Department. He wants more powers. So within seven days he is going to make changes to the Town and Country Planning Act of 1974.
You can also see the direction this government is heading. Now Sardesai talks of a new regional plan 2030 which will be cobbled together within six months. That’s pure fiction. But what is not fiction is this. All plans relating to RP2021 will be stopped immediately. Whichever projects were given permissions will now be treated on a case-by-case basis.
Worse is to come. The Regional Plan 2030 will be based on Transfer of Development Rights (TDR). Where landowners will be given extra FAR for land acquired to develop the area into a township. They can use that FAR on any of their land holdings. Or they can sell them to a builder.
This government wants to “strike a balance between investor confidence and public sentiment” while making a new regional plan. This can only mean one thing, land deals brokered by the 40 MLAs of Goa.
These are dangerous times for Goa and citizens cannot afford to be comatose and not look beyond their noses. They have to step back and see what is going to happen to the State in the hands of these career politicians, who have proved to all of us, that they will do anything they can to grab power. They are supremely uninterested in the safety of the Goa or its citizens. Witness how they are sitting on their hands with the Lucky 7 digging itself deeper into the sandbar.
Oh, but there’s going to be an element of Goenkarponn, said one of the dailies. The TCP department will include local architects and civil engineers in the panels. It is a crying shame that the daily does not know that it is local architects and civil engineers that have happily jumped into bed with feral developers. They pocket their payments without bothering about the damage they are wreaking on the ecology and demography of Goa.
This government’s stated priority is to grow investor confidence. We all know that investor confidence translates into donating precious Goan land for a song while pocketing vast sums under the table for themselves and their party.
Goa does not need to give away more land. The industrial estates should be fully utilized first. Instead there are industrial plots lying fallow. Just like agricultural land.
