Lokayukta to make an appearance in Goa less than a year before end of BJP term

April 19, 2016

Former chief minister Manohar Parrikar had earnestly pledged to appoint a Lokayukta within 100 days of taking office. Now less than a year before leaving office, they are making noises of setting up
former chairperson of the Goa Human Rights Commission (GHRC), Justice P K Misra as a new Lokayukta for the state of Goa.

Aires Rodrigues, that nemesis of Lokayuktas for the state, gives Mishra the thumbs-up: “He is a good judge. But by the time he takes charge and sets shop, the term of this government will have ended,” says Aires.

As it goes, chief minister Laxmikant Parsekar has informed the press that a Lokayukta will be appointed by next week.
