JOAO BARROS PEREIRA | Help me if you can. I read yesterday that the newly-formed BJP government is going to declare the coconut tree as a tree in future during the next Assembly meet after the budget session.
Like lots and lots of Goans I could not understand how it could be anything else other than a tree. But the wise Environment Minister Mr Arlekar informed us it was not a tree. He of course fell from the coconut tree, metaphorically speaking, and broke his bondo and now his political career is buried, again metaphorically.
Enter Vijay Sardesai, Goa’s new superman. He has stated that the coconut tree will in future be declared a tree as he has been assured of it by the new Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar.
In the previous BJP government MLA Arlekar declared the coconut tree is not a tree and this government has made a u-turn of sorts or contrary opinion. Explain why you Mr Arleker de-coconutized the tree, give us the facts because MLA Vijay has stated it is a tree and necessary amendments will be made to return the coconut tree to its former glory. I salute MLA Vijay Sardesai.
Everybody who knows me knows how much I love coconut trees which is my favorite tree after banana trees which is, of course, my favorite. However, this issue is driving me bananas.
What guarantee is there after this BJP government has declared the coconut tree as a tree, the next BJP government will declare again it is not a tree! It has happened before and it can happen again.
